Triphala, an ancient herbal blend, is one of the most commonly used herbal remedies in the Ayurvedic system of healing. It originated in ancient India, and has developed over the years.
Triphala (the three fruits) is an Ayurvedic, polyherbal preparation comprising of a mixture of three ingredients. The ingredients all native to India are fruits: Bibhitaki, Amalaki, and Haritaki.
Each fruit positively impacts the body’s three doshas. In Ayurvedic medicine, doshas are elemental forces believed to permeate body, mind, and spirit.
Triphala has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. It’s thought to support bowel health and aid digestion. As an antioxidant, it’s also thought to detoxify the body and support the immune system.
Triphala benefits include improving oral health, Diabetes, constipation and several skin conditions. Triphala can help to naturally cleanse the colon. Having regular bowel movements are important for removing bacteria, heavy metal detox and eliminating excess fatty acids from the body.
Triphala is usually taken on an empty stomach and can be ingested in a few different ways.
As a digestive tonic and laxative, triphala is best taken in the evening, about two hours after eating, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
